Kalkan
The historic town of Kalkan is an enchanting place and one of the most beautiful locations along Turkey’s gorgeous Lycian Coast. With the absence of mass tourism, Kalkan remains a charming and unspoiled haven of lush nature, brilliant blue crystal-clear sea, historic architecture, ancient history and warm traditional Turkish hospitality.
With over 300 days of sunshine a year, Kalkan is a hit with sun worshippers. The summer temperatures rarely drop below 25°C. To make the most of Summer highs, plan your trip to between June to August. Temperatures can peak to 40°C. We would recommend staying in the shade during the peak hours of 12-3pm.
If you prefer milder temperatures, consider visiting Spring or Autumn. April to May and September to October. You will find the weather is pleasant with highs in the late 20s. A good time to visit Kalkan, especially if you’re travelling with younger kids. You’ll beat the scorching temperatures and with fewer crowds have the beaches practically for yourselves.
In November to March, the temperatures dip to lows of 12°C with an increased chance of rain.
Location
How to get there
Airlines such as easyJet, TUI, Thomas Cook Airlines and British Airways all run direct flights from the UK to Dalaman Airport. The flight is just over four hours.
Hiring a car is the easiest way to explore the region. There are hire companies at Dalaman Airport. The drive to Kalkan takes just about 1 hour and 25 minutes (there is a toll en route). Alternatively, taxis/private shuttle transportation, work well for non-drivers and larger groups. We are happy to organise transfers for you to and from the airport, payable locally when you arrive.
Buses are the cheapest (yet longest) transfers. They involve changing en route. Havas run buses from Dalaman Airport to Fethiye, where you can then board a Batı Antalya bus bound for Kalkan.
